Job Description:

CCSAO is looking for a dynamic, energetic intern who is eager to take on hands-on, challenging, and relevant legal work experience at our Criminal Prosecution Division (Gun Crimes Unit & Alternate Prosecution and Sentencing Unit). You will be working closely with team of prosecutors who have a passion for public service, earned nationwide recognition for excellence, and strive to seek justice for the people we serve. Law students are paired with outstanding Assistant State’s Attorneys to learn from the best prosecutors during their clerkship. Duties include conducting legal research, preparing memos, partnering with counsel regarding case management and procedural requirements, and assisting courtroom proceeding.


The divisions are ideally looking for a 2nd law year student, but we are also encouraging 1st year students to apply. It is expected the intern will support the unit throughout the Spring and Summer term. We will work with law students who are eligible to apply for the 7/11 License. While clerking for CCSAO with a 7/11 license, you will be eligible to handle your own cases under the supervision of an Assistant State’s Attorney.


Please note, this is an immediate need. Once we have reviewed your materials, all qualified applicants will be contacted for a phone or in-person interview. Students are asked to rank where they would like to work for informational purposes only. Students will be assigned based on their relevant experience, convenience, and needs, and availability of the office.

  • Current resume
  • A current transcript
  • Legal writing sample (not to exceed five pages).

  • A signed and dated Release Form (electronic signatures will not be accepted)
  • Letters of recommendation from Employer or Professor o *Note: Application and the Letter of Recommendation can be submitted at a later date
