Eleni Katsoulis is a senior Claims Counsel with Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, where she manages and oversees the defense of professional and general negligence claims and directs litigation and trial strategy. She also provides legal counsel to various Northwestern departments on litigation related issues.
Prior to NMHC, Eleni worked in-house for a corporation that owned and managed long term care facilities. There, she handled employment, regulatory, medical malpractice defense and related issues. Additionally, she was responsible for representing the Corporation in governmental investigations including matters relating to the US Department of Labor, Department of Homeland Security, Illinois Department of Public Health, Illinois Department Human Rights, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Eleni graduated from Chicago Kent College of Law in 2010 with highest honors. During law school, Eleni interned at Homeland Security’s United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Office of the Chief Counsel, the Federal Trade Commission, and Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, where she gained valuable courtroom experience using her Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711 license. She received her undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Illinois, in 2007. While at the University of Illinois, she was very active in Orthodox Christian Fellowship (“OCF”), and there she served as the first resident advisor of the OCF house.
Eleni holds numerous leadership positions in the community: currently she is Chairwoman of the Hellenic Bar Association (“HBA”), after serving as the youngest president of the HBA. She is a founding member of Hellenic Legal Assistance Services (“Hel.LAS”), where she provides pro bono aid to low-income members of the Greek community of Chicago. Hel.LAS is the first and only such pro bono clinic in North America. Additionally, she manages and oversees its volunteer attorneys. Since the opening its doors in 2016, the clinic has assisted more than 400 Greek and Greek-American families.
Eleni has also served on the Board and Junior Board of Chicago Volunteer Legal Services for over 10 years, where she has been honored for her pro bono work. Most recently, Eleni was recognized by Law Bulletin Media as one of the 2023 40 Under Forty Illinois Attorneys to Watch.
