Hel.LAS offers free legal services to families in need

Hel.LAS is a pro bono legal aid clinic created to serve the legal needs of low-income members of the Chicago area’s Greek community. Our clinic provides Greek Americans with access to legal information, referrals, and potential representation in a linguistically and culturally sensitive environment.

Hel.LAS provide advice and counsel in a variety of areas, including domestic relations, immigration, contracts, bankruptcy matters, landlord/tenant disputes, wills and powers of attorney.

Hel.LAS is promoted and served by the HBA, and housed at Hellenic Foundation, 6251 W Touhy Ave, Chicago, IL 60646. Additionally, Chicago Volunteer Legal Services provides Hel.LAS volunteers with substantial resources and malpractice insurance. Hel.LAS is recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization, by the IRS as of August 2016.

Hel.LAS owes much of its success to its wonderful volunteer attorneys, who offer their time and provide services to those seeking help. Hel.LAS is made up of approximately 40 volunteer attorneys, who are enthusiastic and eager to help their community. When potential clients make appointments with Hel.LAS, the Hel.LAS Board of Directors work diligently to connect a client with a volunteer attorney. From the volunteer attorney’s perspective, Hel.LAS offers Greek attorneys the ability to give back to a community that has given us so much, and to use their professional skills to help the less fortunate. Additionally, Hel.LAS volunteer attorneys are offered seminars and Continuing Legal Education opportunities, to expand their knowledge in various practice areas.
