STANDING COMMITTEES

ASSOCIATION EVENTS

This committee organizes our professional programs and events designed to provide networking, career, educational and social opportunities for our members. This committee is refreshing all of our programming, so this is a great time to get involved and have an impact on the future of the organization’s services to its members.

EXTERNAL RELATIONS

This committee manages our relations with other bar and professional organizations and develops CLE events. Members of this committee regularly interface with the broader legal and professional communities, affording our members a great opportunity to network, learn and grow.

JUDICIAL EVALUATION

This committee represents the HBA in the Alliance of Bar Associations for Judicial Screening. Members perform background investigations and attend interviews of candidates seeking judicial positions in Cook County. This is a great chance to meet lawyers and judges and learn about the screening process that all judicial candidates have to go through.

MEMBERSHIP

This committee reaches out to prospective members to join the HBA, manages our Attorney Directory and handles the processing of dues. It’s a great opportunity to spread the word about our great organization.

YOUNG LAWYERS

This committee is for lawyers practicing less than 10 years and provides opportunities to network and socialize professionally with other young lawyers. The committee also designs get-togethers and professional programming geared to those starting out in the profession.

FOUNDATION OUTREACH COMMITTEES

LAW DAY

This committee is responsible for coordinating the annual essay contest, where 5th-8th graders learn and write about a current controversial legal topic. Student winners read their essays in a courtroom and receive an award at a ceremony hosted by one of our judges.

MENTORING

This committee runs our Mentorship Program, which qualifies for MCLE Credit through the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism. Senior attorneys are paired with new attorneys, and sometimes law students, to foster relationships and receive guidance in their professional development.

SCHOLARSHIP BALL COMMITTEES

SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISING

This committee reaches out to the community and raises funds for our law school scholarships, which are matched by our Foundation. This committee does its work in the summer and fall leading up to the Ball in October.

This committee runs our scholarship program for law students. Members handle the interview and selection process, and present the scholarships at our annual Scholarship Ball. This committee does its work in the late summer and fall leading up to the Ball in October.
